Mobile Device Management functions like “remote-control”, install/remove applications, start/stop applications, access/change the file system and folder structure, as well as check processor, memory and battery utilization are all performed using the same Stay-Linked Administrator console application and thin-client connection.

Security to Meet the Toughest Requirements

Stay-Linked’s thin-client architecture provides an added layer of security to existing wireless networks. All TE application screen and captured data is encrypted - no “clear-text” Telnet or SSHv2 communication in the device to host system data stream at all. Plus, there’s no Telnet or SSHv2 client on the user’s device, only the Stay-Linked thin client. With Stay-Linked, the only Telnet or SSHv2 communication takes places internally within the host system where it is most secure.

Communication from the Stay-Linked Administrator GUI console for interactive mobile device management functions uses this same secure connection method and protocol.

Network/NAT-Friendly Communication

Communication between devices running the Stay-Linked thin client and the host system where the Stay-Linked server is running is done using Stay-Linked’s proprietary UDP/IP-based protocol and not a typical TCP/IP based protocol. As a result, NAT, network firewalls and port restrictions do not present a problem for Stay-Linked communication.

There is no constant TCP/IP device to host communication needed with Stay-Linked’s quiet UDP/IP-based protocol. As a result, network traffic and bandwidth consumption is reduced (no continuous communication with the host system is required between scans or key presses).

Plus, the use of Web Services or configuring additional ports is not required when implementing Stay-Linked Device Management features – the same firewall-friendly and secure Stay-Linked thin-client connection is used.

Works on All Network Types, Including Cellular

Due to Stay-Linked’s thin-client architecture, mobile devices that are capable of connecting to host systems via wide-area broadband access (Windows Mobile Smart Phones, RF equipped PDAs and laptops, etc.) can access host-based 5250/3270, VT100/220 and SSHv2 screen applications in real-time.

A popular example is programmatically disabling and re-enabling the scanner on a device within a Stay-Linked TE session. When a user scans a value that generates an error condition from the application, the user must acknowledge the error message on their screen and hit a specific key or else the scanner will not work, which prevents them from simply ignoring the message and scanning the next item.
